Interview with Treva Stutzman, president

How did you get involved in this business?

I was selling bras through home parties where ladies would get together and the fitter would fit each one of them in private. During that time the other guests would socialize. Then, I had a chance to open a small boutique in Villa Italia where ladies could come in and get fitted at their own convenience.

What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

We still measure and fit every client who comes in and she can select from a large inventory of properly fitting bras. Most women are wearing the wrong size, or the size they thought they were years ago. We also educate them about how to correctly wear their bra. The correct bra often visually reduces her by 5-10 pounds or more, gives her more comfort, better support, better posture and confidence that she looks her best. We also fit post-breast surgery women in bras and prosthesis and help restore her confidence in looking “normal” as she did before her surgery.

What do you like best about your line of work?

Helping women feel better about themselves, restoring their comfort and confidence, and helping them find a size that may be difficult to find elsewhere. Our sizes range from 32AA-48N and some larger. I also love the reputation we have developed over 41 years throughout Denver and Colorado for our fitting skills and services, and the referrals we receive from other stores.

What is your business’ biggest challenge?

The complexity of Medicare, Kaiser and the insurance industry for the women who have had breast surgery.

Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

My degree from DU is in education and I have been educating women ever since about how to put on and correctly wear their bras. I opened my first store during the era when women were burning their bras, and we have survived and thrived for 42 years.
