LONGMONT — Longmont police say 14 teenage boys are believed to be responsible for a series of vandalism, car break-ins and auto thefts in and around the city since September, and some of the boys arrested in early cases already have reoffended.

Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said investigators have been working to solve the series of crime sprees and ran into the same suspects over and over. So far, he said, the teens, ages 14 to 17, have been connected to seven auto thefts, 18 car break-ins, five open garage door burglaries and an overnight vandalism spree last week that caused $21,000 in damages with nearly 60 broken vehicle windows.

Four boys are currently in custody. Satur said the group has been connected to the theft of two cars and nine car break-ins on Sept. 22. In that incident, four teens were arrested. On Nov. 13, vandals smashed windows on nearly 60 vehicles in an overnight spree.
