Q: It is time for me to replace my computer. My wife has a laptop, but I have always used a desktop. I am trying to decide if I should also switch to a laptop or go
with another desktop. Are there any advantages to desktop over a laptop?

A: Generally, a $500 desktop will feature a faster processor and more storage and memory than a laptop that carries the same price tag. Of course, the laptop is portable. Instead of paying extra for a high-end laptop, another option would be to go with the desktop and a tablet or e-reader, depending on your needs. Dell and Sony have also released so-called mobile desktops, which feature tabletlike screens with all of the components built into them rather than the traditional monitor and tower. The mobile desktops are much lighter than standard all-in-one PCs but start at about $1,000.
