BROOMFIELD — Walt Spader, a force in Broomfield city government for two decades who called the city home for more than 40 years, died Tuesday night — the same night a group of his friends and colleagues asked City Council to honor him by putting his name on a Broomfield facility or amenity.
Spader, 76, died after a short and sudden illness.
Spade served on City Council from 1973 to 1975, was mayor from 1975 to 1987 and served again as a councilman from 2003 to 2011.
Those who knew him said he was instrumental in many of the decisions that made Broomfield the community it is today.
