BOULDER — The man shot by a Boulder police officer Sunday was arrested at the same address in August on suspicion of threatening to slit his girlfriend’s throat.

Michael Habay, 41, was shot and killed Sunday at his apartment at 3009 Madison Ave. after police say he ran at the officers while wielding two knives when they broke into his apartment under the belief that Habay’s girlfriend, Kirstin Stenseng, may have been in danger inside.

According to court records, it was not the first time police were called to Habay’s address on a possible domestic dispute. Stenseng’s brother called from Illinois on Aug. 26 and told dispatchers his sister was being threatened by Habay.

According to a police report, Philip Clegg told dispatchers he could hear Habay in the background yelling and saying, “I’m gonna slit your (expletive) throat (expletive).”
