Verizon Wireless is the top-rated cellphone carrier in the Denver area once again, according to the latest report by independent network evaluator RootMetrics.
While it is the fifth consecutive time Verizon has ranked No. 1 in RootMetrics’ report covering metro Denver, the gap in the quality of service appears to be narrowing between the nation’s largest wireless-service provider and its biggest rivals.
From Oct. 26 to Nov. 2, RootMetrics conducted more than 23,000 tests on cellphones with service from the four major carriers: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
Verizon received the top overall ranking for cellphone coverage and service, as well as Internet data performance. The carrier also tied for first with AT&T for text quality. Verizon and T-Mobile tied for first in call performance.
Overall, AT&T and T-Mobile were virtually tied for No. 2. Sprint ranked last among the majors again.
AT&T and T-Mobile are catching up to Verizon in overall performance. In April, Verizon was awarded an overall score of 94, ahead of AT&T’s 89 and T-Mobile’s 88. In the latest report, Verizon scored 96, while AT&T earned a 93.5 and T-Mobile 92.9.
