GOING TO THE MAT: The YMAT bills itself as a yoga/fitness mat for travel, but it also works great as a roomy featherweight pad for picnics and protection on hard (or wet) seats. Rolled or folded, you’ve got an instant pillow. Made of spongy neoprene, with a gridded rubber bottom that resists bunching and slipping, the YMAT comes in a 25-inch by 48-inch travel size that’s fine for sitting, but not long enough for an adult lying down. The longer 25-inch by 75-inch standard model is better for that, and doesn’t take up much more space when rolled or folded. Lay the mat flat at the bottom of your suitcase to cushion other contents without sacrificing much space, or wrap it around particularly fragile items.

YMAT in purple, pink or black, $44.95 for smaller travel size; $54.95 for standard size,
