Interview with Joni Fields, owner
How did you get involved in this business?
I worked for Saks Fifth Avenue and when they closed our store, I decided to follow my dream and open a children’s clothing store.
What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
Joonbugz is an upscale children’s new and near new consignment store. We carry only designer children’s clothing at 50-90 percent off retail prices. You can find Burberry, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Hanna Andersson, Ralph Lauren, Janie & Jack and unique boutique brands. We also carry many locally made, handcrafted items such as knitted hats, jewerly, clothing, blankets and a huge selection of hair accessories.
What do you like best about your line of work?
This is a dream come true for me. I love kids, clothes and people. Waking up every morning living your dream is the best way to live your life. Plus, I love when people come to my store and tell me how much they love shopping at Joonbugz.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
Because we are in Brighton, many potential customers think it’s too far of a drive for them. What they don’t realize is that Brighton is only 20 minutes from downtown Denver. We are right off of Highway 85. Once people actually make the drive, they always say, “Wow, it really isn’t as far as I thought.”
Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
I worked in the corporate world for most of my life and I had always had a dream to open my own business one day. I had a business plan for about three years and never thought I would implement it. Then when I got laid off from Saks, it took me three months to open my store. We won the Best Consignment Store award for the Channel 7 A-List after being open for only six months, and then won Best Children’s Clothing store the next year as well as the Brighton Chamber of Commerce award for Best Small Business of the Year.
