COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach is on a collision course with the city council over the city’s budget for next year.

Bach says he plans to vetoes sections of the budget that he disputes, which could set up a court challenge.

Bach says the city charter gives him the power to spend tax money and that city council is trying to take that away.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette ( ), the council voted 8-1 to approve the 2014 budget with 18 amendments and a change in budget procedure that limits the mayor’s ability to move money.

The council will meet Dec. 18 in a special meeting in an effort to overturn the vetoes.
