MONTROSE, Colo.—A large ice flow on the San Miguel River sparked warnings Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office says the flow broke loose somewhere above Sawpit and moved rapidly downstream in a wall of water estimated to be at least 4 feet high.

The sheriff’s office sent more than 260 emergency notification system calls to residents warning them to seek higher ground while deputies went door-to-door issuing warnings.

According to the Montrose Daily Press ( ), deputies checked river pullouts and other areas close to the river downstream from Placerville and the flow had slowed and lowered before it caused any damage.
