A recent study by economists at the University of Colorado at Boulder found that smartphone users are willing to pay anywhere from $1 to $4 to keep certain data private. Contacts proved to be most valuable, with users saying they’d be willing to make a one-time payment of $4.05 to conceal that information. Protecting location data was valued at $1.19, while hiding the contents of text messages was worth $3.58. Visit for more on the study by economists Scott Savage and Donald Waldman.
