COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is rounding up 27 bison to thin their hungry herd.

They are also looking for homes for some of the animals, and some of the bison may have to be killed.

According to the Denver Post ( ), bison were introduced experimentally at the arsenal in 2007 and thrived.

Federal biologists say they must reduce the herd to 60 bison for now to avoid exhausting the prairie grasses, where the bison roam across a 2,600-acre fenced area.
