sorority kept things “in the family” when booking the talent for Divas on Broadway: A Holiday Centennial Cabaret.

The Delta Divas on Broadway is a vocal ensemble made up of four members from the alumnae chapter in Fort Worth: Angela P. Bell, Kaye Jones McDonald, Audra Scott and Charlene D. Ayers. The women have been performing together since 2004, and their repertoire includes show tunes, opera, rock, soul and gospel.

In other words, a perfect fit for the Denver fundraiser chaired by Jennifer Ford Keel and Marcia Williams.

The dinner event held at the Renaissance Denver Hotel also included the crowning of the 2013 Delta Voice, Ciara Rhea, a student at . Qirsten Carter from in Colorado Springs came in second, while third place went to Marissa Murdock from in Denver.

Rhea, Carter and Murdock were part of a group of Delta Voice hopefuls coached by Denver first lady Mary Louise Lee, who recently auditioned for ” ,” and two other Denver-area vocalists, TaGana DeClutte and Robertta Moore.

Each of the finalists received cash prizes made possible by patrons Knobby Brown and Marcia D. Strickland.

The evening opened with remarks by Djuana Harvell, president of the Denver Alumnae Chapter, and former state legislator Gloria Tanner, the president of Denver Delta Inc. Slam poet Lucifury also performed.

Guests included former Denver Bronco Odell Barry and his wife, Glenda; Anthony Young, chairman of the board of directors; Emily Tarleton, past president of the Volunteers of America Guild; Cleo Breeze, a past president of ; Rosemarie Allen, executive director of the ; president Elizabeth Lee and vice president LeNitra Oliver from ; Marva Shoates; Jean and Lloyd Shelton; and Happy Haynes, a member of the Denver School Board.
