and “Saturday Night Live” can’t seem to get enough of each other. Or is it Jimmy Fallon? The ex-SNL alum couldn’t possibly fathom hosting without the likes of his late night partner in crime. And why not? Justin Timberlake made 2013 his year, from parading around the world with Jay Z to releasing not one, but two albums within a few months. If JT wasn’t enough for Fallon last night, made a special appearance to “christen” the soon to be host of the “Tonight Show.”
Justin Timberlake shined from the beginning in an outrageous gift wrapping costume, alongside Fallon in a holiday bag costume, as “wrappers,” muscling for turf against his mother in a clever holiday themed skit that sampled Gotye’s “Somebody That I Use to Know.” You didn’t think that JT was only going to appear on one skit, did you? Timberlake successfully nailed a perfectly over-the-top take on his “brah,” Jimmy Fallon in a hysterical “Family Feud” skit that pinned celebrities from rival networks, NBC and CBS.
Timberlake made his musical appearance a memorable one with an introduction by Fallon and Madonna. In this instance, a giant LED screen with a Justin’s face and shooting lasers was appropriate on “Only When I Walk Away.” An excellent choice off of one of the true gems taken from “The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2.” In the quiet take on “Pair of Wings,” Timberlake proved that he’s more than just a perfectly well groomed head of hair and a golden voice as he gently plucked away on his acoustic guitar.
