DENVER—Jefferson County sheriff’s officials say five homemade bombs have been discovered near Littleton.

Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer tells KMGH-TV ( ) that the bombs are in 2-liter plastic bottles and contain a volatile mixture of household cleaning items.

The first unexploded bomb was found Thursday. Techmeyer says bomb squad technicians determined it wouldn’t have exploded, probably because it wasn’t properly made.

Four additional plastic-bottle bombs were discovered Friday in two other locations. They had already exploded.

Officials say creating such bombs is a felony crime, and Techmeyer urges people not to pick up a device if they come across one.
