Quicker Quaker 5K Walk/Run
Jan. 11: Included in the 18th annual Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival. Start time is 9:30 a.m. at the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts, 200 E. Baseline Road. Stagecoach Classic Point-to-Point Cross Country Race & Tour
Jan. 25: The opportunity to ski on an “off the map” course this is only groomed and made available for this race and tour. The cross-county ski race is classic-technique only. A 15KM ski or snowshoe tour is also available along with a 1KM kids race. Start times include the Rachel’s Stomp 1KM kids race (age 12 and under) at 8:30 a.m., 30KM race mass at 9 a.m., 15KM race mass start 10:30 a.m., 15KM ski tour start at 10:35 a.m., snowshoe tour start at 10:45 a.m. The course starts at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, continues along the Idlewild Trail System through Tabernash, Fraser and finishes at Winter Park. Fees vary and include a post-race barbecue. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Trout Unlimited Campaign to protect and preserve the Fraser River. Evergreen Ice Bike Race
Jan. 25: The third annual competition features a multiple-loop course covering ice and land with obstacles on and around Evergreen Lake. 8 a.m. registration, 9 a.m. start. Amateurs will ride for 30 minutes and advanced competitors for 45 minutes. $30, $25 in advance, pre-registration closes at 5 p.m. Jan. 24. Devil’s Backbone Open Space
Jan. 15: “Moon Over My Open Space” is the theme of this approximate two-hour moonlit walk led by a volunteer naturalist, 5:30 p.m. Hike rating is easy. Through Feb. 28: Build healthy habits with a new free “Passport to Health” fitness and wellness rewards program. A Fit Pass booklet featuring 30 activities and ideas is available. Activities are assigned points. All points must be earned by Feb. 28 and completed booklets turned in by March 7. Those who earn at least 35 points of a possible 70, will receive a $10 South Suburban recreation gift card, and will be entered into a drawing to win several prizes.
