DENVER—Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper has remembered last year’s historic floods and wildfires in his annual State of the State address.

But the governor says the disasters shouldn’t define Colorado.

The Black Forest Fire last June in El Paso County killed two people and destroyed 486 houses.

Then, in September, floods in four northern Colorado counties killed nine people and damaged or destroyed nearly 2,000 homes.

First responders to the disasters were in audience Thursday for the governor’s remarks.
