In his Tuesday, President Obama announced an executive order raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour for new federal contractors. He also urged Congress to pass a bill raising the minimum wage to the sane amount for all workers across the U.S.
Obama hit the road Wednesday, pitching the across-the-board increase. Speaking at a Costco in Maryland, Obama said, “Ultimately Congress does have to do its part to catch up to the rest of the country on this.”
Critics of raising the minimum wage say the increase could have a negative effect on the economy, discouraging employers from hiring more workers.
