Interview with Patsy Juarez, president

How did you get involved in this business?

I was looking to attend yoga classes in my neighborhood and could not find regularly scheduled classes that met my scheduling needs. We opened our first studio nearly four years ago and have seen the demand for our classes grow so much that we needed more space for classes at prime times. Thus, we opened our new studio Jan. 1 so we could offer more yoga and cycle/yoga classes.

What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

We are a small studio, which allows us to get to know our students and provide modifications and adjustments to meet their needs. We gear our classes to various skill levels, making everyone feel welcome while creating a fun environment. We recruit teachers who are skilled in the classes they teach as well as building a sense of community within our studios. Many of our teachers were once our students.

What do you like best about your line of work?

Watching students get healthier, stronger and gain confidence. Being a part of changing students’ lives.

What is your business’ biggest challenge?

Recruiting teachers certified in specialty areas (prenatal, sculpt, etc.). Creating the right schedule for our students: the right class, right time, right teacher.

Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

I was not a yoga teacher prior to opening the studio. I saw the need, created the business plan and then got the training.
