Colorado’s connection to the 2014 Winter Olympics goes beyond our world-class snow sports or the 20 0r s0 athletes we’re sending overseas — including Aspen-born ice skater Jeremy Abbott (pictured). To commemorate the start of the games on Feb. 7, the city of Colorado Springs, home of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, will broadcast the opening ceremonies on a 17-foot-wide LCD screen and offer other family-friendly activities as part of its 2014 Olympic Downtown Celebration. The free party includes the 1-mile “Short and Sweet Downtown Dash” (for a $10 registration), a dog-sled demonstration, snowmobile jumping, ice skating, toboggan and snowshoe races, and live entertainment by Austin Young and Grant Sabin. 5-10 p.m. Tejon Street from Platte Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue.
