CORTEZ, Colo.—The police and fire departments in Cortez are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted three downtown businesses.
The fire began before dawn Sunday and firefighters arrived to find flames leaping 20 feet into the air.
The Cortez Journal ( ) reports that a flooring shop and a shoe store were among the three stores destroyed. Around 50 firefighters from Cortez and surrounding communities responded to the blaze.
