OMAHA — The University of Denver scored in each period Saturday night and split its two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series with Nebraska Omaha, beating the Mavericks 4-1 before 6,643 fans at the Cen- turyLink Center.
Nolan Zajac, Trevor Moore, Matt Marcinew and Josiah Didier scored for the Pioneers, who improved to 14-10-6 overall and 8-7-5 in the NCHC. The Mavericks, who beat DU 4-2 on Friday, are 12-14-2 and 9-7-3.
DU goalie Evan Cowley made just the second start of his career. He weathered a first-period storm, fighting off three power-play chances to keep UNO scoreless despite facing numerous point-blank scoring opportunities.
Cowley, a freshman, finished with 33 saves.
DU won despite being outshot 34-19. The four goals by the Pioneers marked the first time they scored more than three in a game since Jan. 11 against St. Cloud State.
This week, the Pioneers play two games against archrival Colorado College — Friday at DU, Saturday at CC.
