DENVER—A 31-year-old incarcerated man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a kidnapping case in Denver that dates back to 2000.
The Denver District Attorney’s Office says Dony Salazar pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree kidnapping and a crime of violence in the Dec. 16, 2000, attack on a woman at a bus stop. The case was reopened through Denver’s Cold Case Project and solved through DNA matching.
Prosecutors say Salazar forced the victim to a remote area at gunpoint and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
The Denver Post reports ( ) Salazar, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery, faces up to 40 more years in prison for the kidnapping case. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 21.
