BOULDER — The Boulder City Council gave initial approval Tuesday night to an ordinance that would require all homes and businesses west of Broadway to have bear-resistant trash cans or keep their trash in a secure enclosure at all times.
The council voted unanimously to require the bear-resistant cans, although exactly what constitutes bear-resistant will be up to the city manager. Officials have said they will look for cans that passed testing at a facility in West Yellowstone, Mont.
