Denver was one of the relatively few large metropolitan areas in the nation where the availability of homes for sale in January declined year-over-year rather than increased, according to report.

The report said inventory rose from January 2013 to January 2014 in 22 of the 35 largest metro areas covered by Zillow.

More inventory has slowed home-value growth, creating in some areas a buyer’s market, according to Zillow.

In Denver, home values rose by 0.3 percent in January from December and inventory declined by 3.8 percent year-over-year.

The median home value in Denver in January was $243,900 compared with a national median home value of $169,000.

In Colorado Springs, home values rose 0.2 percent in January from December with a median value of $198,800. In Fort Collins, home values increased 0.5 percent in January from December with a median price of $245,500. And in Greeley, home values increased 0.3 percent in January from December with a median price of $187,800.
