Interview with Cynda Trudell, owner
How did you get involved in this business?
My husband and I have been in the restaurant business since we were young and have had partnerships throughout the years in different restaurants. We purchased Bread Winners Catering in 1999 and moved to Olde Town Arvada after being at Jeffco Airport for a year. We wanted to open a cafe to go along with the catering for quite some time, and this last year seemed like the right time. We have a great following from our catering service, and I have lived in Arvada my whole life. A love of good food and great friendships through our business led us to this place.
What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
We are full-time owner-operators for every event we do. Mark is my husband and partner in this business, and we work on menu development together as well as front of the house. We take big pride in our food and want to know what our guests like and what they would like to see different, too. We sort of feel like our place is a place away from home, not only for ourselves but our guests. Our staff works hard to recognize our guests’ names and what they like. They also engage with our clients, as do Mark and I. We tend to like very flavorful food that actually tastes like the ingredients listed on the menu. We also appreciate and value our clients and what they think.
What do you like best about your line of work?
We love our staff and treat them like family. When you treat your staff like this, they will in turn take great care of you and your clients. Together with strengths from all sides and experiences, you create something special. We feel that is what we have.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
Building the business and getting people to visit Olde Town. Olde Town is a destination location that has so much to offer: very unique shops with great owners.
Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
Our business is located in an 1934 Sinclair gas station converted into a restaurant. You will see some things that would make you wonder, but it is decorated with some of my favorite things. Not really one type of style but many. Historic plates, pictures and memories are also located on the walls.
