GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A district judge has ruled that there is sufficient evidence to take the first-degree murder case against an El Jebel resident to trial.

Fredy Cabrera is accused of premeditated first-degree murder in the shooting death of Douglas Menjivar in 2013 outside an apartment.

Cabrera’s 18-year-old stepdaughter, Leydy Trejo, told the judge on Monday that her decision to move in with Menjivar angered Cabrera and sparked a family dispute.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent ( ), attorneys for Cabrera said there was no evidence Cabrera planned to shoot Menjivar and the charges should be reduced to second-degree murder.
