LONGMONT, Colo.—Two possible objects from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane spotted in the southern Indian Ocean came from commercial satellite imagery provided by DigitalGlobe.
The Longmont-based satellite imagery company in a statement Thursday confirmed it provided the images to Australian officials. Australia’s officials said clouds and rain hampered the search Thursday but they would try again Friday.
One of the objects was 24 meters (almost 80 feet) in length and the other was 5 meters (15 feet). There could be other objects in the area, a four-hour flight from Australia’s southwestern coast. Australian officials caution the debris could be debris from cargo vessels along a shipping route.
DigitalGlobe officials have said their satellites can spot objects on the ground or on the ocean surface as small as a briefcase from space.
