ASPEN, Colo.—A German snowboarder who died after hitting a tree in the Snowmass area has been identified as 54-year-old Uwe Breitkreuz (OO’-wee BRYT’-kroyts).
The Pitkin County coroner’s office released Breitkreuz’s name Thursday but said his hometown wasn’t available.
Breitkreuz was pronounced dead at a hospital after hitting a tree on Tuesday.
Officials say he was wearing a helmet when he crashed.
