Chaffee County authorities on Monday recovered remains believed to be those of an Ohio man who went missing while on a hike last September.

Gene George, 64, of Bay Village, told his girlfriend on Sept. 18 he planned to go hiking on Mount Harvard. He was never heard from again.

On Sunday, a hiker found a wallet and clothing near a trail leading to the summit of Mount Harvard, according to a news release from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, remains were found in the area and released to the coroner’s office for official identification, according to the release.

and authorities lasted four days when George initially went missing.
