Stock-dog trials
The 11th-annual Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials are May 9-11. Taking place a block from downtown Hotchkiss, the event includes a judged sheep-shearing demonstration on May 10, and other events and activities throughout the weekend. Food vendors will be on site. Spectator entry fees begin at $4.
Trinidad military parade
Trinidad’s Armed Forces Day Parade is May 17. Trinidad will honor the nation’s armed forces and veterans, beginning with hundreds of motorcyles rolling down Main Street. Festivities include live music and more. The parade starts at 10 a.m.
Indian Market and Powwow
The Tesoro Cultural Center’s 14th annual Indian Market and Powwow in Morrison is May 17-18 and features native Southwestern art, dance, music, cuisine and educational activities for kids and families. American Indian artists from Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico will also hold demonstrations.
Taste of Spring in Ignacio
Fox Fire Farms’ annual Taste of Spring event is May 17-18 in Ignacio. The weekend is family-oriented, and includes baby farm animals, live music, artisans and Fox Farm wine tastings, as well as tours of Ignacio’s historical one-room schoolhouse. Admission is free, and the event lasts from 1 to 6 p.m. each day.
