The 52-year-old Thornton man who stole the luggage of 1970s guitar god Peter Frampton from Denver International Airport last year was shown the way to jail on Friday, but his sentence was suspended.

John Allen Papelbon was sentenced to 60 days behind bars, which was suspended by the judge, so he could work to pay the $8,884 restitution, according to state records.

In addition, Papelbon will be on probation for two years after he pleaded guilty to theft of between $2,000 and $5,000

Papelbon , nearly half of the 17 reported stolen from the airport’s carousels in 2013.

When detectives searched his Thornton home, they found bags by brands such as Tumi, Gucci, Burberry and Polo, along with jewelry, a Philadelphia Eagles jacket, North Face ski wear, computer equipment and golf shoes — enough items to fill four pages of a search-warrant inventory.

Papelbon took Frampton’s luggage when the guitarist arrived into town to perform in Beaver Creek.

Papelbon was originally charged with four counts of theft and two counts of burglary.
