Influential English indie-rock band could have been a Denver band. Frontman wrote in his 2013 autobiography that before the Smiths formed, he went on an extended trip to Colorado where “I rashly place a fruitless ad in the Rocky Mountain News in search of musicians.” But, of course, he returned to Manchester, where he, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce formed the short-lived and beloved band.
After the Smiths broke up in 1987, Morrissey embarked on a solo career that has been defined by genius, humor, media controversies and his advocacy for vegetarianism and animal rights. As is the Morrissey way, the beloved singer’s upcoming show at the on May 17 has been two years in the making and marked by drama, disappointment, cancellations, postponements, illness, feuds, new albums and only now, if we’re lucky, an actual concert.

April 11, 2014 — Morrissey shares his featuring song titles such as “Kick the Bride Down the Aisle.”
April 19, 2014 — Morrissey speaks out against Canada’s annual seal hunt, calling it “regrettably fashionably dead.”
May 7, 2014 — At his North American tour opener in San Jose, fans took the “hugging of Moz” too far and , causing the singer to cut his show short.
May 9, 2014 — Morrissey denies it, but two bands said he wouldn’t allow them to play in another room in the same venue when his show was also scheduled.
May 17, 2014 — If all goes according to plan, Morrissey will play the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at 8 p.m.
