A new report from The Diffusion Group, a research firm, shows that 16 percent of consumers who subscribe to pay-TV and home broadband are using their smartphones or tablets as remote controls. Companies such as Comcast and Dish should pay attention to that data, said TDG president Michael Greeson, because “getting consumers to use these devices to control the basic functionality of their televisions is an influential first step towards more widespread use of social TV applications.”
