Castle Rock Town Council has set the ballot language for the Aug. 19 special election on the repeal of the town’s ban on the open carrying of firearms on town-owned and managed properties.

The ballot will read: “Shall ordinance 2014-03 be approved which ordinance revokes the authority of the town manager under the municipal code to prohibit the open carrying of firearms within municipal buildings, parks, recreation areas and other municipal properties owned or operated by the Town of Castle Rock?”

Council briefly discussed and had public comment Tuesday night on a proposal to also vote on an amendment to the town charter regarding open carry. Council ordered town staff to prepare the ordinance.

A special council meeting on the charter amendment has been set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

In January, at town-owned and managed properties, which allowed the town manager to control where the ban apply.

In February, that forced council to overturn the repeal of the ban or put it to voters.

Council moved to send it to voters.
