
Memorial Day weekend was a cut short for Rocky Mountain National Park and Mount Evans after Trail Ridge Road and Colorado 5, respectively, were closed by weather Saturday night.
There was no specific time for either route to reopen, but it looks doubtful for the rest of the holiday weekend, representatives said.
Trail Ridge Road will reopen when road and weather conditions improve, a park spokeswoman said Sunday evening. Colorado 5 will be closed until at least Tuesday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Heavy intermittent snow closed Trail Ridge Road at 8:12p.m. Saturday, according to CDOT. Colorado 5 closed at 9:12 p.m. Both routes had opened Friday.
Memorial Day weekend is the traditional opening for some of Colorado’s highest and most iconic mountain passes.
Independence Pass on Colorado 82 opened at noon Thursday, connecting Twin Lakes to Aspen, and remained open though Sunday evening.
CDOT cautioned last week, when it announced the openings, that the depending on weather conditions for the next few weeks.
