Interview with Krista Garcia, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: Before I went into business for myself, I had worked in a handful of salons. I decided I needed more control over my environment and that’s when I decided I only wanted to work for myself. I opened a smaller salon in the Thornton area. I was there for about six years. It did well and later it became necessary for me to relocate to an area that gave me the opportunity to expand and have better parking access for clients. I grew up in this area and always liked this part of Westminster. So far it has been an excellent move.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: All of the stylists here at Salon Brio are very unique from one another. We each have our own style, which makes for an excellent team. We compliment each other, rather than compete. I believe this gives us the ability to appease a wide variety of clientele.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love coming to work every day and getting to see all my clients. Most have become friends, as well. I love meeting new people. In this line of work, people are happy to see you. Emotions are a huge part of our work on both sides. We put our hearts into everything we do. In turn, that can make a huge difference to our clients by improving their self-image and self-esteem. It is very rewarding at the end of the day to know you made a difference.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Our biggest challenge sometimes is being able to accommodate walk-ins. We have seven stylists who are very busy. We do encourage prebooking to get a time slot that works for you. We also offer online booking from our website.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Last summer when the Fox network was filming “Kitchen Nightmares” at a local restaurant, they asked if they could film some interviews in our salon. Even though they didn’t use any of the footage, it was still an amazing experience to meet Gordon Ramsay and see the TV experience behind the scenes. Even if it was just for a brief moment, we all felt like movies stars.
