Never in their wildest dreams did the members of think that when they nominated eight young men for the 13 Grand Boulè Scholarships to be awarded this year, seven would be chosen for the $10,000 awards.

But they were.

Nathaniel Bradley III, Dawit Gebresellassie, Deion Graham-Long, Antonio Lamont Hill, Nosa Osazuwa, Quyncc Johnson and Jordan Strickland will receive $2,500 per year for four years, and be paired with mentors who will provide guidance and inspiration.

“We could not be more proud,” observed Denver County Court Judge Gary Jackson, chairman of Delta Eta Boule’s scholarship foundation.

Gebresellassie, a graduate of George Washington High School, plans to major in finance at the . He is also one of 150 , chosen from 110,000 applicants worldwide, and the recipient of a $10,000 grant.

Bradley, a graduate of Rangeview High School, will study biomedical engineering at the ; Graham-Long is heading to to study computer science while Hill, who, like Graham-Long, graduated from Mullen High, will focus on neuroscience at the .

Cherokee Trail High School grad Osazuwa will be pre-med at , while the is where Johnson, a graduate of Eaglecrest High, is going to study international business and political science. Cherokee Trail’s Strickland will major in mass communication at the at Austin.

Helping young men succeed is a priority for Delta Eta Boulé, noted president Marc Wallace. “We care about these young men. Being able to present these scholarships is a big deal for us, and we want to make it an even bigger deal.”

President-elect Al Cooper, who retired after 25 years with , chaired Denim & Dazzle. The dinner, dance and auction brought 440 guests to the on June 28.

Among them: U.S. Sen. Mark Udall; Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and his wife, Mary Louise Lee; former Mayor Wellington Webb and his wife, Wilma; state Rep. Angela Williams; Terrance Carroll, associate general counsel for SCL Health System; former Denver Bronco Mark Haynes and his wife, Victoria Scott-Haynes; attorney Stacey Campbell and his wife, Michelle; senior U.S. District Court Judge Wiley Daniel and his wife, Ida; artist Darrell Anderson and his wife, Shawnee; Jim and Kathryn Kaiser; Mical and DeVita Bruce, whose son, Chas, has just started classes at the U.S. Air Force Academy; Boulé scholar Andrew Craig, who has just received his degree in film studies from Yale; and Anthony Paul, a . The Morgan Stanley Foundation recently awarded $20,000 to the Delta Eta Boulé Scholarship Foundation.
