Stretch your brain

Everyone needs a little mental stretch now and then. If you’re feeling chronically unfocused or in need of a little cognitive pick-me-up, consider Elevate’s quick brain-training program. The app aims to improve your ability to focus, your reading comprehension and memory with a series of quick exercises. The games take only a couple of minutes and are good for mental breaks throughout the workday. Users are rewarded for accuracy and speed, and can track progress over time to see whether the program is paying off.

Users can access up to 15 games that are available with a “Pro” subscription, which will cost either $7.99 a month or $14.95 a year. Free for iOS and Android devices.

You’ve got prospects

LinkedIn has worked to become the de facto social network for professionals. Now with its latest app, LinkedIn Job Search, the company is looking to use the information it has collected over the years to put that data to work. Not only can the app suggest open jobs near you, but it can scan your profile to suggest jobs across the country. The app will also take a look at your LinkedIn network, and it lets you see which of your current acquaintances can give you the inside scoop on a company. Once you’ve found a job that’s interesting, you can save it for future reference or go straight to the company’s human resources site within the app. In some cases, it will even let you fill out that application with information from your LinkedIn profile, if the company has opted to accept that information.

LinkedIn promises that your job searches, applications and lists of saved jobs are private, so you don’t have to worry that anyone will know you’re shopping around. Free, for iOS devices.
