Re: “Biker Eric Levy brings ‘Iron Butt’ competition to Colorado,” July 3 YourHub story (Denver edition).

This may come as a shock to YourHub contributor Don Morreale and Eric Levy, the California ex-pat who has organized three so-called Baby Butt 1,000-mile motorcycle rallies, but Colorado has had its own homegrown 1,000-mile annual event since 1985.

Eric Levy

On Aug. 16, the Colorado Free Wheelers (www.cofreewheelers.org) will hold the 30th running of the 1000-In-24 endurance ride.

The ride, which covers 1,000 miles in 24 hours, gets a new route every year and draws riders from Colorado and several other states, and sometimes foreign countries. And, yes, many of them ride BMW motorcycles.

It is admirable that the BMW Motorcycle Club has sponsored three 1,000-mile rides since Levy came here, but, sorry, he and they are hardly the innovators of a 1,000-in-24 motorcycle event in Colorado.
