Thompson Valley senior Danny Highland has given his verbal commitment to play football at the Air Force Academy.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound offensive tackle and defensive lineman said he came to a decision about two weeks ago.

“It just had everything I was looking for,” he said. “… I love the camaraderie.”

Born into a military family, he said the Air Force made sense for him. Highland, 17, also received offers from Chadron State and Cornell, and had interest from Wyoming.

“He’s a student of the game,” Thompson Valley coach Matt Smith said. “He’s one of the hardest working kids on the team.”

Highland said he’s looking to pursue biology at the school.
