producer/songwriter Rostam Batmanglij has left the band, according to a note he posted today.

The note reads:

hi- I wanted to let ppl kno I’m no longer a member of VW but that Ezra and I will continue to collaborate on future projects and future VW,” he wrote. “My identity as a songwriter and producer, I realized, needs to stand on its own. Still connected to the ppl I work with, but through the songs we make together

i can’t even begin to express the joy I get from writing songs, both on my own + with others, I hold it all sacred. ther is so much amazing music — all of it dear to me — on its way to you. it’s an exciting time. and i feel lucky to share it with you

Rostam

No word yet on whether the “amazing music” on its way that he mentions will be a new Vampire Weekend album or not. Considering it’s been nearly three years since the band’s excellent third album, we can only hope that’s part of what he’s referencing here.

The 32-year-old Batmanglij is a seasoned songwriter and producer. His credits include HAIM’s “Days Are Gone,” Charli XCX’s and Batmanglij also released an album with Ra Ra Riot’s Wesley Miles in 2009 under the name Discovery.

Earlier this month, Batmanglij shared “EOS,” a song he penned under the guise of his new solo project, Rostam. Listen to that below.
