Between all of these ice bucket challenges and Taylor Swift’s new pop song, we don’t blame you if you missed a few releases this week. We have had “Shake it Off” on repeat since it dropped, and we have been avoiding our Facebook feeds for fear of getting nominated to douse ourselves with water colder than the Boulder Creek in January. However, despite all this we still managed to round up some news for you. No need to thank us, it’s what we’re here for after all.

Haim Release Video for “My Song 5” and Literally Everyone is in it. Literally.

2014 is technically the year of the dragon, but we are thinking of petitioning to renaming it “Year of Haim” These sisters have taken over the music world with their flawless middle parts and catchy Fleetwood Mac inspired melodies. This week the California sisters released a video for “My Song 5” which is arguably one of the best live performances off their debut “Days Are Gone” and they seemed to recruit every celebrity ever to join in on the Sally Jessy Raphael-esque antics. From Kesha to Ezra Koenig to SNL’s Vanessa Bayer. This version of the song includes an extra verse from ASAP Ferg. This isn’t our favorite version of the track, but we won’t complain.

Johnny Marr drops a new track. And it is better than anything off Morrissey’s latest.

Moz does a really good job of keeping himself in the forefront of everyone’s minds. So with all the controversy of him being “dropped” or “not dropped” (it was dropped) from his label, it has overshadowed the goings on from the other members of The Smiths. This week Johnny Marr released the video for the latest single “Easy money” off his forthcoming sophomore solo album “Playland” due to drop on October 6th. It’s hard to not draw comparisons to the latest solo endeavors of his former bandmate, but we are going to do it anyway. And we hate to break it to you Moz, but this new Marr track is a lot more enjoyable than “World Peace is None of your Business” and it even had a track about making out on it.

London’s Only Real Releases New Track and it is Real Good

First off, if you missed Only Real’s track “Cadillac Girl” released earlier this summer. Please do yourself a favor and check it out before you keep reading. It is one of the sunniest and enjoyable songs of the summer, and we haven’t been able to stop repeating it since the temperatures rose above “leather jacket weather.” Niall Galvin, who performs under the moniker Only Real, is set to release his debut album in early 2015 via Harvest Records, and is teasing us with a new track. “Pass The Pain” is filled with ’90s kid nostalgia vibes topped with easy listening falsetto. We’re not huge fans of the heat, but this track makes us wish summer would last just a little longer.

The VMAs are this Weekend, but Have We Recovered from Last Year?

The MTV VMAs are this weekend, which seems impossible because the image of Miley and Robin Thicke gyrating on stage is still freshly burned into our brains. It is one of those award shows where it is way more about the performances than it is about the actual awards. If you ask anyone about VMA winners, chances are they will go immediately to Taylor Swift, only because of that time Kanye interrupted her. We can only imagine what will happen this year with Beyonce, Taylor Swift, 5 Seconds of Summer and more gracing the MTV stage. We’re not gonna lie either, we’re pretty excited to see what Queen Bey has in store. Will anything top Justin Timberlake from last year though? (Answer: No. I, Erin, was at the VMAs last year and nothing will top this ever.)

Aussie Alts. The Griswolds release debut next week, play Colorado Tonight

Australia musical output has been on fire lately. From Iggy Azalea to 5 Seconds of Summer to indie boys The Griswolds, the country just cannot not. We caught The Griswolds at CMJ last year, and they even played Reverb’s SXSW showcase, so to say that we have been anxiously awaiting the release of their debut album “Beware the Dog” is an understatement. It has already dropped in Australia and New Zealand, and doesn’t hit our shores until next week, but you can catch them tonight in Colorado Springs.
