A Douglas County district judge on Tuesday denied a request by vote-counting critics that Castle Rock halt the processing of ballots from a controversial election on firearms regulations.

The plaintiffs, including Internet radio host and Castle Rock resident Daniel Meurer, sought a temporary restraining order to bar election officials from continuing to tally votes from the Aug. 19 special election, .

The ruling came less than a week after a different judge shot down .

Election critics contend that a large portion of the 9,400-plus ballots returned to the Castle Rock clerk were mishandled because election judges were able to tie ballots to particular voters. Secrecy sleeves were added to the ballot processing by election officials a few days in to the vote counting.

is still awaiting a hearing date.

A final result is expected to be announced any day.
