Getting your player ready...

Andrew Furney, a rookie from Washington State, left the Broncos’ headquarters Saturday without a contract.

Furney was given a tryout Saturday morning with Broncos’ general manager John Elway and special teams coach Jeff Rogers in attendance. Furney made all his field goals, but was so-so on kickoffs. Another young kicker, Dustin Hopkins, had to scratch from the tryout because of a minor leg issue.

The Broncos still have newly acquired kicker Brandon McManus on their roster as a possible replacement to Matt Prater, who will be placed on the reserve/suspended list today. McManus demonstrated a strong leg in the Broncos’ preseason game Thursday at Dallas, going 5 of 5 in kickoff touchbacks and making field goals of 20 and 40 yards. But he also missed wide right on field goal attempts of 52 and 53 yards.

The Broncos may continue to continue look at kickers who become available on the waiver wire today.
