Female veterans are one of the fastest-growing segments of the national veteran population, and Women Veterans of Colorado plans to help them at the group’s annual conference, to be held Sept. 13.

The conference, called “Pathways to Self Sufficiency,” is free and will offer nine different classes in three categories — self sufficiency, wellness, and employment — with special focus on female entrepreneurs, employment, financial literacy, and self care.

Susan Lawrence, a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Army, will speak to women about achieving goals by using an entrepreneurial spirit.

“I look forward to speaking with my fellow women veterans, hearing their stories, and sharing mine,” said Lawrence, who is now senior vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton, a sponsor of the conference.

The luncheon keynote speaker is Dana Niemela, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, who now works as program manager for Denver’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program and was honored at the White House as one of the 2014 “Woman Veteran Champions of Change.”

In addition to classes, there will be a resource fair from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to provide a venue for networking, transition readiness, and employment education.

Volunteers will also assist with resume writing and interview skills.

The conference will be held Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 10 E. 120th Ave., Denver.

Registration is free, and lunch is included. More information is available on the
