The Broncos will introduce their offense during the starting lineup ceremonies tonight.
The first player to run out of the tunnel?
Andre “Bubba” Caldwell. The seven-year veteran is replacing the suspended Wes Welker in the Broncos’ starting lineup, although not necessarily in the slot.
Welker is a slot man through and through. Caldwell is an outside receiver. Look for the Broncos to use a combination of Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas and even their running backs in the slot position for their game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos can also use two tight ends and flex Jacob Tamme into the slot area.
But in the three-receiver sets, Caldwell gets Welker’s reps. Second-round rookie Cody Latimer is coming along nicely. It’s just that the Broncos’ offense operated by Peyton Manning at a no-huddle pace takes longer than most for rookies to pick up.
