Xbox One

Microsoft has announced a new deal in which people who buy a can choose a free game to go along with it.

Unlike previous bundle packs that included Titanfall and Forza Motorsports 5, this deal allows gamers to select any title, including the hotly anticipated shooter Destiny, which hits stores today. Whatap more is that people can purchase a bundle pack and still get a second game for free. The deal began on Sunday, Sept. 7 and lasts through Saturday, Sept. 13.

While the deal is great for Xbox fans, it’s telling of Xbox One’s poor performance since it was released last November. put the Xbox One’s worldwide sales at five million units as of Aug. 19. However, that number isn’t solid as it merely reflects the number of gamers who have posted a clip of their gameplay to the Upload application.

PlayStation-4-and-Xbox-One

If the number is accurate, however, it means that rival console Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold double that amount in the same amount of time. At Gamescom, Sony it had sold 10 million units worldwide. The Xbox One was released Nov. 22 and the PlayStation 4 launched a week prior.

In May, Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox One from its original $499 price tag to $399. However, the cheaper version does not include the Kinect, which allows for voice and movement recognition, among other features.

This latest deal seems like an attempt to lure gamers to consider the Xbox One heading into the large holiday season, which will see the release of big titles such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4.
