The Broncos moved to 2-0 on the season after upending the Chiefs 24-17 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday. Here were some notable and not-so-notable moments from the win.
Sharp early. The Broncos went ahead 7-0 on their first possession, traveling 80 yards in seven plays. Tight end Julius Thomas scored on a 4-yard pass for his fourth TD in five quarters — the most by a Bronco to begin a season.
Clockwork orange. Peyton Manning was near perfect in the first half, connecting on 15-of-19 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception and had a QB rating of 148.1.
Big D once again. Denver snuffed out Kansas City’s fourth-down bid in the final seconds, the second week in a row the Broncos survived a late rally.
Null and void. Demaryius Thomas had a 55-yard reception nullified by ineligible man downfield (tackle Chris Clark) late in the first quarter. Had it counted, the play would have given Denver a first down at the Chiefs’ 25. Instead, the Broncos ended up punting from their 20.
False start. Despite scoring on their first drive, the Broncos rushed for only 7 yards in the first quarter.
Ground game. Kansas City had the better rushing offense, evidenced by the yardage comparison (133 to 88) and time of possession (36:14 to 23:46).
