A man called to a home to aid a woman involved in a domestic dispute was beaten with a metal fireplace tool and seriously injured.
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 6100 block of Gunshot Pass Drive, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.
Police said a man and woman were arguing inside a home on the block and the woman called a friend to come by and drive her to another locale.
When the Good Samaritan arrived he was severly beaten with a fireplace tool, struck multiple times around the head and face.
The 39-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery for his injuries.
Police said the man who had been arguing with the woman assaulted the victim. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle before police officers arrived. He remains at large.
Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Eric Chacon.
